Stefanie Schneider’s work with expired Polaroid film

Long Way Home 1

Stefanie Schneider lives and works in Los Angeles and Berlin.

Stefanie’s scintillating situations take place in the American West. Situated on the verge of an elusive super-reality, her photographic sequences provide the ambience for loosely woven story lines and a cast of phantasmic characters. She works with the largely uncontrollable chemical mutations of expired Polaroid film stock.

Chemical explosions of color spreading across the surfaces undermine the photograph’s commitment to reality and induce her characters into trance-like dreamscapes.

Like flickering sequences of old road movies Schneider’s images seem to evaporate before conclusions can be made – their ephemeral reality manifesting in subtle gestures and mysterious motives. Schneider’s images refuse to succumb to reality, they keep alive the confusions of dream, desire, fact, and fiction.Exxon Full of Dreams (The Girl...) • I’m delighted you do too! And thank you for the warm welcome back, Moira! I’ve taken on a business which has seen me finding little time for blogging these last few months but I hope to put fingertips to keyboard more regularly now I’ve settled in!

    • Hi Elka,
I’m delighted you enjoyed these. Thank you for visiting and also for the referral to Patricia Eichert’s work – her images are such fun! Watch this space as I plan to feature some of her constructed tableaux here on my blog sometime soon…
      Cheers, Susie
